A Day Focused on Practical Resilience
Families, caregivers and professionals supporting individuals with behavioral health needs often carry emotional, mental and physical stress that builds quietly over time. Finding space to pause, reflect and recharge is not always easy, yet it’s essential.
Devereux’s Family Resilience Conference is built around one central idea: Resilience isn’t something you either have or don’t have; rather, it is something that can be strengthened with the right support, strategies and community.
During this event, attendees will hear from behavioral health experts, clinicians and individuals with lived experience, all focused on helping caregivers and families better navigate stress, uncertainty and burnout.
The conference will open with welcoming remarks from Devereux President and CEO Carl E. Clark II and Devereux National Trustee Board Chair Lisa McCann, setting the tone for a day centered on shared learning and support.
Expert Sessions Designed for Real Life
The agenda blends education with reflection, offering practical advice and methods for attendees:
The Benefits of Not Being a Jerk to Yourself
Dan Harris, New York Times best-selling author of 10% Happier (now a multi-million-copy bestseller and widely followed podcast), TED Speaker and former ABC News anchor, shares his personal journey with mindfulness and meditation, offering a candid and relatable perspective on self-compassion, mental health and resilience in high-pressure environments.
Build Your Bark
Greg Hedler, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia program manager and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, will explore the importance of community care and personal resilience, along with how caregivers can strengthen their own “bark” to weather ongoing challenges.
A Resilient Mindset: 23 Behaviors that Build Strength and Hope
Susan Damico, Devereux Center for Resilient Children director, will introduce the Devereux Adult Resilience Survey, a strengths-based checklist designed to help adults reflect on what they are already doing well, and identify opportunities to build resilience over time.
Panel Discussion: Lived Experience and Practical Strategies
Devereux Family members with lived experience will share real-world perspectives on what resilience looks like day to day, offering insight that blends personal stories with practical takeaways.
Integrative Health Movement Group
Greg Hedler and Lisa Squires, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Integrative Health nurse coordinator, will lead a mindfulness-based movement session connecting breath, movement and resilience in ways that are accessible for everyday life.
To help participants stay engaged, the program also includes breaks to create space for reflection and reset throughout the day.
Whether you are caring for a loved one, working in healthcare or education, or simply seeking strategies to support your own well-being, Devereux’s Family Resilience Conference offers accessible guidance and meaningful connection.
